An alloy of pure silver and copper added for strength, sterling silver is guaranteed to be 92.5% silver. It will tarnish over time, which a polishing cloth can restore to its original shine.

Storing jewelry in a ziplock bag will keep sterling from tarnishing as quickly. Cleaning is simple - use a tiny bit of liquid Dawn or ivory soap with warm water and a toothbrush to clean as needed.
